I'm afraid I am not much help to you. I just turned 65 years old, and am married for 26 1/2 years.
I live near Montreal (about 450 miles north of NYC). Here there is no racial or ethnic majority. The majority is immigrants from every imaginable corner of the globe. 50 languages in a day are routine.
Personally I speak, read and write: (English (native) French (almost as well as English) and some Spanish.
I am a Toastmaster of about 4 years standing, and have given one speech in French and been a guest in a Spanish club and introduced myself in Spanish.
I also have a long technical background in Electronics, Electricity and computers. Most of this is self-taught and bears a strong mark of exceptionality. I am very-research-minded and highly analytic, but this does not make for popularity.
Most of my formal post-secondary education was in French-language institutions, but doe to lack of French technical vocabulary, the mix is a techno-jumble of English and French.
